March 31, 2020

Organizers of the 11th Annual Tulip Celebration, originally scheduled for Friday, April 3 to Sunday, April 12, have had to scale back most event activities.

Activities that have now been canceled include the photography contest and exhibition; tulip trolley tours, plant and flower sales by Lewes in Bloom and the inaugural children’s photography exhibition.

The floral demonstrations are scheduled to take place from 11 to 11:30 a.m., April 3, at Flowers by Mayumi, 128 Second St., and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 4, at Floral Inspirations, 524 E. Savannah Road. Depending on weather conditions, Cape Artists plan to be painting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 4, in Zwaanendael Park.

Visiting the outdoor tulip plantings individually and in small groups is within the CDC guidelines. A free map that lists the parks and public spaces where the 23,000 bulbs were planted last fall by volunteers from Lewes in Bloom is available in the brochure box outside the Lewes Chamber of Commerce visitor center in the historic Fisher-Martin House at 120 Kings Highway next to the Zwaanendael Museum.

The visitor center is temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but chamber staff is available to answer calls at 302-645-8073, and supply brochures and visitor information from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The 52nd Great Delaware Kite Festival set for Friday, April 10, at Cape Henlopen State Park, jointly sponsored by the Lewes Chamber and the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation, has been canceled this year. It will not be rescheduled.

The 25th anniversary of the British Motorcar Show, The British are Coming...Again, has been canceled. A collaboration between the Lewes Chamber and the British Car Club of Delaware, the show was originally set for Saturday, May 2, and will not be rescheduled in 2020.
