Lewes Creative Writers’ Conference to return Aug. 13-14

July 15, 2021

The Lewes Public Library welcomes participants for the 14th Annual Creative Writers’ Conference to be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 13 and 14, via Zoom.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m., Aug. 13, with an evening of live readings featuring original works by workshop presenters. Saturday’s full-day conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and offers a variety of workshops, roundtables and presentations on writing-related topics.

This year’s conference features sessions on approaches to crafting poetry, developing engaging narrative in creative nonfiction, writing historical fiction, self-publishing, and creating effective dialogue. Presenters include Fleda Brown, Ellen Prentiss Campbell, Anne Colwell, Lois Hoffman, Edgar Kunz and James Keegan.

During the lunch session, Roxanne Stanulis from Delaware Division of the Arts will provide information about grants and opportunities for writers, followed by readings by the 2021 DDOA Fellows in Literature. Conference participants also may take part in poetry and short story roundtables to receive feedback on their own works.

“The Lewes Public Library looks forward hosting the Creative Writers’ Conference each year,” said Lea Rosell, library director. “In bringing such gifted presenters together with our own community of talented writers, we aim to help inspire, grow, and build connections within the writing community.”

The evening of readings and the conference are free and open to the public, but registration is required. For more information or to register, go to lewes.lib.de.us.

The Lewes Creative Writers’ Conference is sponsored by the Lewes Public Library, Delaware Division of Libraries, John and Sally Freeman Foundation, and National League of American Pen Women, Diamond Branch. This program also is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
