Lewes Historical Society announces new board leadership

February 27, 2022

The Lewes Historical Society board of trustees has announced its new leadership for 2022, its 60th anniversary year, as Peter Keeble is installed to chair the board.

Keeble will help guide and support the society's work to promote the preservation, interpretation and cultural enrichment of the Lewes region with support from his fellow officers Vice Chair Denise Clemons, Corporate Secretary William Roeder and Treasurer Richard Weissmann.

Fay Blake, John Hanson and Erik Hein join current board members Stuart Brahs, Bill Collick, Ilona Holland, Terri Lottmann, Harold W.T. Purnell II and Darica Ward.

The board of trustees works closely with Lewes Historical Society staff to implement a wide array of activities to promote and enhance the community's historical presence.

Society events for 2022 include the debut of Finding their Voices: African American History & Legacy of Lewes, just one of five walking tours available to the public this season.

There are numerous opportunities to experience history as it comes alive through immersive interpretative programs. The first of these Living History events, Hearty in the Cause: Lewes 1776, provides attendees with a glimpse into life in 1776 Lewistown through traditionally attired interpreters and live period demonstrations.  Additional programs such as Lewistown Living History and the ever-popular Tavern Talks are scheduled throughout the year.

The board of trustees continues to provide support for the historical society archives. This valuable resource includes books, photographs, decorative-arts objects, tools, paintings, and historic and genealogical records related to Lewes and the surrounding region. Many of these resources are made available for study and viewing by members of the community.

March kicks off the society’s monthly speaker series presented at the Lewes History Museum. A 60th anniversary celebration highlighting memorabilia collected by the society is also planned for the museum.

The Lewes Historical Society board members thank all who support its mission. The meaningful programs and events are made possible through the support of the society’s members, donors and sponsors, and the invaluable contributions of more than 140 volunteers.
