The City of Lewes honored police Cpl. Richard Schiazza for 25 years of service. Mayor Andrew Williams, City Manager Ellen Lorraine McCabe and Police Chief Tom Spell presented Schiazza with a certificate and a monetary award at the Oct. 14 mayor and city council meeting.

Spell has announced the promotions of three tenured officers in the department.

Sgt. James Locklear, a 13-year veteran, was promoted to lieutenant. Cpl. Tyrone Woodyard, a 16-year veteran, was promoted to sergeant. Cpl. Jonathan Moyer, an 11-year veteran, was promoted to sergeant.

Spell said the city has upgraded starting salaries for new officers to $75,000, effective Oct. 14. He said tenured officers have also received raises.

Spell said budgeted, unspent money from the current fiscal year was used for the increases.

“I want to thank each of the officers for their continued service to the department and their commitment to stand on the line to serve and protect Lewes,” Spell said.
