Lewes house tour, holiday village and market set Dec. 7
Tickets are now on sale for the Lewes Historical Society’s annual Holiday House Tour of Lewes, to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, featuring 10 properties adorned for the season.
The society will also hold its annual holiday village and market in conjunction with the house tour, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 7, on its main campus at 110 Shipcarpenter St. Limited preview hours will be held from from 4 to 7 p.m., during First Friday, Dec. 6.
A variety of local farmers and food specialty vendors will be on site. Four Acres Living will bring several alpacas to greet visitors. Offerings include local honey, freshly baked gourmet goods, olive oils, local jams and jellies, nut brittles, fresh oysters and more. A dozen local artisans will also be selling unique holiday gifts including candles, ceramics, woodcrafts, glass, photography, paintings, textiles, jewelry and holiday ornaments. LHS’s traditional greenery and holiday decorations sale will be held in the barn Saturday only. Admission to the holiday village and market is free. Visitors may see inside the collection of historic buildings, and mingle with historic interpreters and carolers on site.
The house tour will showcase a mix of architectural and design styles, ranging from a new home filled with charming Americana décor and rich historical elements, to an 1882 home that was originally built as a church and expanded in 1930 before being renovated to its current modern house design.
The tour ticket will provide visitors with a rare occasion to tour a stunning brick Victorian farmhouse located on Savannah Road. A blend of historical elegance and artistic detail, the house features lavish murals, several of which were painted by a Philadelphia set designer. Event guests will also be treated to a tour of a charming 1950s beach house that has evolved into a cheerful modern retreat.
On Kings Highway, tour attendees will experience another late-1800s Victorian treasure transformed into a welcoming space. This historic home blends high style with gracious charm, and features original built-in bookcases, cozy nooks, creaky floors and multiple fireplaces along with modern updates.
The tour also welcomes ticket holders to view the first floor of The Lodge at Historic Lewes and the historic DAR Thomas Maull House built by local carpenter Samuel Paynter, both decked out for the holidays.
A detailed guidebook with descriptions of each property on the tour will serve as an admission ticket and will be available to pick up prior to the event.
Each ticket will provide one-time admission to tour all homes during the designated hours.
Past events have sold out, so early ticket purchase is encouraged. For more information, go to historiclewes.org.
