Lewes man arrested in Dewey crash
A 37-year-old Lewes man was arrested Aug. 9 for his role in a car crash in Dewey Beach that left three people injured.
Dewey Beach Police say Kenneth Pedro Quezada was driving his 2021 Audi Q3 over the speed limit in rainy weather around 10 p.m. in the area of Route 1 and King Charles Avenue. As Quezada approached a curve, his car skidded into the median, knocked down multiple traffic signs and collided with a white Toyota Avalon, pushing both vehicles into a black Honda Accord. The force of the collision caused the Avalon to strike another vehicle, a green Lexus NX.
As a result of the crash, one victim sustained broken bones and severe lacerations. Another had lacerations and contusions, while a third sustained a contusion; three people were transported to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Quezada suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Officers noticed that Quezada showed signs of impairment and conducted a DUI investigation. Quezada refused a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test. Dewey police were able to obtain a warrant for Quezada to submit to a blood test.
Quezada was arrested and charged with felony first-degree vehicular assault while driving under the influence, felony criminal mischief over $5,000, misdemeanor criminal mischief under $5,000, misdemeanor driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and various traffic charges. He was incarcerated at Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. Dewey police continue to investigate the crash.
