Lewes Mayor Ted Becker, right, hands a proclamation to Lewes Historical Society Executive Director Mike DiPaolo officially recognizing April as Historic Preservation Month.
The society owns and maintains dozens of historic properties within the city, including the Cannonball House on Front Street, the Zwaanendael Club on Savannah Road and the Ryves Holt House on Second Street, the oldest standing building in Delaware. Last summer, the society opened the Lewes History Museum in the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center, the former library, on Adams Avenue.
The society recently held the Lewes Preservation Awards at the museum, where it honored Lewes residents and organizations for their historic preservation efforts.
