October 17, 2023

The City of Lewes held a farewell reception for outgoing City Manager Ann Marie Townshend Oct. 12.

Elected leaders, co-workers, former colleagues and friends filed into council chambers throughout the afternoon to say goodbye.

“It was a great experience. I’m going to miss it a lot,” Townshend said.

Townshend received a proclamation from the city at her final council meeting Oct. 9. She said she is proud of what the city accomplished in her time there and that the city is in good hands.

Townshend served as city manager for six years. She left to take a job with a private consulting firm in Dover. Her last day was Oct. 13.

That same day, mayor and city council officially appointed Assistant City Manager/Finance Director Ellen Lorraine McCabe as acting city manager.

They also appointed Parks and Marina Manager Janet Reeves as acting assistant city manager. She will continue overseeing the city’s parks and marina.

Both McCabe and Reeves began their appointments immediately. They will serve in those roles until April 2024.
