Lewes Yacht Club Foundation hosts sailing school
The Lewes Yacht Club Foundation held a sailing school July 23 for children from the West Rehoboth Children and Youth Program. The program, which is held three afternoons per week, is spent learning knots, sailing and more.
Sue Keller, president of the Lewes Yacht Club Foundation, said, “We started the foundation in 2011 with the mission of providing funding to enhance the potential of youth in sailing, swimming, maritime activities and education. We’ve given about $170,000 in our Charles Beaverson Jr. Scholarship to fund students who are going off to college who are going to be majoring in something to do with marine science, or maybe they are on the sailing team. We’ve also been funding YMCA Safety Week for many years, which teaches children who don’t know how to swim.”
