Lewes Yacht Club hosts youth regatta for junior sailors

A total of 79 young sailors from clubs around the region competed July 20 in the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association Lewes Yacht Club Youth Regatta, which is one in a series of association races.

Sailors competed in four fleets throughout the afternoon on Delaware Bay. The top Lewes Yacht Club finishers were Bailey Fletcher and Riley Stazzone, taking fourth in Club 420 racing. More than 30 volunteers from LYC and the Freedom Boat Club Sea Sisters provided support for the event. During the day, there were more than 100 boats on the bay along Lewes Beach.

CBYRA junior sailors compete in 14 sanctioned regattas throughout the summer.

Optimist green fleet: 1. George Tyson, Severn Sailing Association; 2. Isla Norrington, Annapolis Yacht Club; 3. Trey Waters, Annapolis; 4. Walter Daigle, Servern; 5. Nellie Wood, Severn.

LYC sailors: 14. Max Weiss; 17. Phoebe Wolf; 21. Andrew Burke.

Optimist: 1. William Rosenthal, Annapolis; 2. Alex Baker, Annapolis; 3. Daniel Tyson, Severn; 4. Halsey Carter, Annapolis; 5. Mason Bothner, Annapolis.

LYC sailors: 24. Henry Cummins; 29. Hedgie Swier.

Club 420: 1. Christopher McCollum, Annapolis; 2. Eric Johnson, Severn; 3. Michael Yost, Tred Avon Yacht Club; 4. Bailey Fletcher, Lewes Yacht Club; 5. Andrew Benson, Tred Avon.
