Library to host talk with ‘The Postcard’ translator Dec. 11
The Lewes Public Library and Seaside Jewish Community will host Tina Kover, translator of “The Postcard,” for an online conversation at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, via Zoom.
Kover, a renowned translator of more than 30 books from French to English, will be in conversation with SJC member Nina Glasner. She will discuss her approach translating Anne Berest’s “The Postcard,” a personal, emotional and historic work. In the novel, Berest creates a vivid portrait of 20th-century Parisian intellectual and artistic life, an enthralling investigation into family secrets and a poignant tale of a Jewish family devastated by the Holocaust.
“The translator makes an immense difference to the author as well as the reader; they serve as our guide and the person we depend on to unlock the story for us. Yet the translator does not receive the recognition she deserves, and we will be able to acknowledge and thank this talented literary mediator when we Zoom with Tina Kover,” said Enid Zafran, SJC book group leader.

Specializing in translating both classic and modern literary fiction, Kover studied French at the University of Denver and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and attended the Next Level Language Institute in Prague, Czech Republic.
