Hundreds of lifeguards were joined by a large and lively crowd of spectators on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and sands of Rehoboth Beach July 25 for the Rehoboth Beach Patrol Lifeguard Olympics.
As the contests transitioned from brutal physical tests in the water to spectator-friendly sand events, more and more people found themselves between the dunes and the lifeguard stands. By the time the beach flags competition rolled around, the makeshift arena was flooded with lifeguards, family, friends and outside observers curious about the athletic spectacle.
For the second year in a row, and matching their performance in the 2024 USLA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, Delaware State Parks Beach Patrol took first place in the RBP Olympics. Strong finishes in the water events, relays and tug-of-war helped fuel the first-place finish.
“The total team effort demonstrated by all those competing was inspiring. And the competition was intense, with a hard-fought win by Delaware State Parks,” said RBP Lt. Bryan Bowles.
Rehoboth Beach Patrol took fourth place while Dewey grabbed eighth and North Shores snagged ninth to give the Cape Region four patrols in the top 10.
Anchorage Motel, Aqua Bar and Grill, Arena’s, Elite Physical Therapy, Good Man Home Improvements, Grotto Pizza, Logo Motive, Print Coast 2 Coast, Purple Parrot, Rehoboth Toy & Kite Company, The Starboard and Surf Bagel helped sponsor the event.
