Linda Russell Griffin, loved her family
Linda Russell Griffin of Lewes passed away suddenly Friday, April 1, 2022, at her home. Linda was born Jan. 31, 1950, at Beebe Hospital, to the late Jean and Pierce Russell.
Linda was an only child and enjoyed growing up in Lewes. She shared life with her husband of 43 years, Glenn (Buddy) Griffin. Together she and Bud moved to Seaford for 34 years and owned Griffin Home Builders, where they worked together diligently every day giving those in Sussex County the home of their dreams. They enjoyed traveling together and going to the beach, dancing, working within the church as well as doing many things with their beloved friends, and attending any activity of their only son Russell. They spent most of their time at ball games and other events of Russ’s and never missed them. Russ later came to work at the family business and the three worked together to build Griffin Home Builders into a wonderful business.
Later in life, Linda and Bud were kept extra busy with their new favorite roles as Grammy and Pop-Pop with their son Russ and daughter-in-law Jessica’s four children, Harper, Crew, Tilghman, and Brighton. The grandkids were the light of their lives, and they spent most weeknights and weekends going to sporting events, dance recitals, and taking them to the beach. They loved to travel to Florida with the kids, going to Disney and the pool, where Grammy always brought candy in her bag and would entertain the kids with all their made-up games.
Linda was a graduate of Lewes High School, where she went on to complete her secretarial degree from Del Tech. Linda worked most of her early career in Georgetown for many of the attorneys. She gained many lifelong friendships from those years and continued to have lunches and outings with many of them. Linda enjoyed attending plays with her play group of friends, and she and Bud often made time every weekend for dinners with friends as well. While living in Seaford, Linda worked for many years on the St. John’s UMC house tour. Most recently Linda was very involved in her church, Bethel United Methodist, where she was on many committees and loved helping with the annual antique show. Several times a week she loved getting out and attending her Zumba classes, and she made many friends there as well.
Linda was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jean and Pierce Russell; and her aunt, Rae Russell. Linda is survived by her husband, Bud; son, Russell and daughter-in-law Jessica, four grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Linda Larrimore (Woodie); her niece, Heidi Penuel (Chris); nephew, Tim Jones (Jamie); cousins, Missie Russell, Karen Hart, Keith Russell; and many additional nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 8, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th St., Lewes, where a viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be private. A reception to further celebrate Linda’s life will follow the graveside service back at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that all donations be made to Lewes Fire Department, P.O. Box 25, Lewes, DE 19958.
