Lisa Ritell, adventurous, creative woman
Lisa Ritell, 68, of Milton, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 15, 2024.
She spent her childhood in Harrison, N.Y., as the youngest child of Patrick and Marie “Dolly” Petrosillo. She was married in 1982 with the reward of two cherished daughters, Danielle and Callie. She spent the majority of her adult life in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., before deciding to pursue happiness near the beaches of Delaware.
Lisa was a force to be reckoned with, a woman who successfully faced life’s challenges head-on, including living with Marfan syndrome. She never wavered in strength, a resilient warrior who proved to be a role model that many had the privilege of knowing.
Her quick wit, quirkiness and sassy sense of humor brought laughter (and a touch of perplexity) to any situation. Lisa’s ability to remain nurturing, creative, adventurous, and fun-loving throughout her life allowed her to live with purpose.
Lisa’s artistic ability and skill of seeing the beauty in the mundane contributed to her creativity. This creativity flourished in her paintings, intricate flower arrangements for the Briarcliff Garden Club, and various artworks for the annual Marfan Foundation Gala. She loved nature’s gifts and creatures, blooming gardens, warm sunsets, colorful birds, and the loyalty of dogs, especially Dobermans. She appreciated the small things in life.
In Delaware, she enjoyed developing new friendships, treasuring old ones, spending time with family, and devoting time to hobbies like launching the Cannery Village Knitting Group, playing Scrabble with her sister, and going to the movies.
She is survived by her daughters, Danielle Ritell of White Plains, N.Y., and Callie Ritell of New York, N.Y., her sister, Meriette (Joseph) Arwady, and her brother, Thomas (Judith) Petrosillo; along with her close-knit group of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father and mother.
A private service will be held at the family’s convenience.
Donations in Lisa’s memory may be made to The Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050, marfan.org.
