Lloyd Paul Francis, loving husband, father

September 26, 2022

Lloyd Paul Francis, 46, departed this life suddenly Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, of a heart attack in Milford, leaving his family and loved ones in a state of shock.  We take solace in knowing that Lloyd will always be in our hearts and is resting in the glory of his savior, Jesus Christ.

Lloyd, who later went by Francis, was born Oct. 26, 1975, in Richard’s Pen, St. Mary, Jamaica, to the late Lorna McKoy and Henry (Stealie John) Francis, where he lived until he was 8 years old.  Lloyd then moved to Hartland, St. Mary with his aunt and uncle (Adrian and Sylvia Francis), where he attended Guys Hill School. He was surrounded by many siblings and cousins. There he spent precious time with them,  which was formative of his core traits of cooperation, loyalty, compassion, and as a fierce protector.

In 2006, he met his wife, Jessica, while working in Exuma, Bahamas, and they quickly became inseparable.  They were married in 2009 and traveled gleefully,  living together in Nassau, Bahamas, Maui, Hawaii, and Sarasota, Fla., before settling down in their first home in Milford. They were always drawn back to the Caribbean, and were looking forward to moving and retiring there.

Gifted with a detailed eye and working with his hands, he followed his passion and attended an apprenticeship for the trade of carpentry. His professional and personal passion for woodworking can be seen in the home he created, which is surrounded by his fine works of furniture and cabinetry. He was self-taught in a wide variety of skills and trades, including turning bowls on his lathe and fixing cars and bicycles. He had a love of soccer from his youth that evolved into playing often with his kids in the backyard.  He had a green thumb, and could make any plant flourish or come back to life.  He loved to keep busy in and around the house, always tending, repairing, and beautifying.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Jessica Turner, his children, Shemar, Yolanda and Adrian; his sisters, Jasmine Francis, Shereen Francis and Kerry Ann Francis; his brothers, Carlton Gray, Andrew Rose and Kevin Lang; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Diana and Mason Turner; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stephanie and James Turner.  He is also survived by many cousins, whom he was close to, including Alfrado (‘Dada’), Andrea Allen, Arthur Wilks, Dennis Wilks, Rose, Carol Francis, Dean Bailey, Ernie Dodson, Gilbert (‘Larry’) and Sandy Francis; in addition to many other cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family members.

Lloyd was a gentle, kind and loving father, husband and friend.  He will be missed dearly by family, friends, colleagues and neighbors.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lloyd Saturday, Oct. 1, at Evan W. Smith Funeral Home, Dover, or via livestream, where a viewing will begin at noon and a service at 1 p.m.
