Loaded handgun found, fired in Ellendale neighborhood

Ellendale police are investigating after a child found a loaded handgun and accidentally discharged it Aug. 27 in Ellendale.

The loaded 9mm pistol was found along the roadway of South Lee Avenue in the development of Ingram Village, said Ellendale Police Chief Bruce E. Von Goerres. A 14-year-old picked up the handgun and accidentally fired it. The juvenile then dropped the weapon and ran home, Von Goerres said. 

Police ask anyone with information to call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or the Ellendale Police Department at 302-422-3584. All information received will remain confidential, Von Goerres said.
