Local candidates to address 14th RD Dems June 12

June 7, 2024

The 14th Representative District Democratic Committee will meet Wednesday, June 12.

Guest speakers will be Marty Rendon, a candidate for 14th RD state representative, and Dana Paskins, who is running for the Sussex County Council District 3 seat. Both will discuss their platforms and vision for serving local communities.

The program will begin at 5 p.m. with a Dutch treat dinner at Iron Hill Brewery on Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach, followed by the candidates’ remarks at 6 p.m. and committee business at 6:45 p.m.

Rendon, one of three Democratic candidates for the state representative position, has worked for many years in the legislative process, serving as a Capitol Hill staffer, UNICEF employee and current commissioner of the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission, which handles cases of discrimination in housing and employment. He earned both a juris doctor degree and a bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University.

Paskins, a retired Air Force major raised in Sussex County, is running on a platform to address overdevelopment and a lack of affordable housing in the area. Since leaving active duty, Paskins has volunteered with an Air Force Retiree Activities Office, served on the Cape Henlopen Senior Center board, and now works with an advisory committee for the legal studies program at Delaware State University. If Paskins were to win the seat currently held by Republican Mark Schaeffer, she would be the first African-American to serve on county council.

The 14th RD Committee represents Democrats who live in and around Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. All registered Democrats are welcome to participate in 14th RD meetings.

Those planning to attend the June 12 meeting should RSVP by Tuesday, June 11, to c.fruchtman@comcast.net.
