Local chef Kevin Reading of Abbott's Grill to demonstrate at Milton Farmers Market Sept. 9
Visitors to the Milton Farmers Market Friday, Sept. 9, will have a real treat in store as local chef Kevin Reading will tour the market and select items from other vendors, and demonstrate the how-to’s of several dishes.
Reading has much experience in the restaurant trade, having started at the age of 14. As he climbed up the ladder in the business, he quickly learned that he had to be able to do every job in the place including that of chef.
In 1994 he enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at The Philadelphia Restaurant School. Restaurants where he has left his signature include Espuma, Sweet Dreams Bakery, and Nage. In 2009, he reduced his involvement in Nage and opened Abbott’s Grill in Milford. He now runs the restaurant with his bar manager and nephew, Scotty Johnson. Clientele can often find him busing tables there, a throwback to his early experience of learning every job in the business.
The Sept. 9 market will also feature wine tasting by John Driscoll, WSET certified wine tasting specialist. Wines will be from Rappahannock of Huntley, Va. This tasting has been rescheduled from an earlier date, which was postponed due to weather.
The Milton Farmers Market is held every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the corner of Magnolia and Union streets in downtown Milton. New vendors include Lew Dodd of Cedar Run Farm with free-range chicken, eggs and beef steaks; Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms with four different varieties of mushrooms; and, back after a short absence, Nana’s Delights with pies, cakes, brownies and cookies. Milton Farmers Market sweatshirts are also available now.To volunteer at the market, call Jim Crellin at 302-684-8963.
