Local venues carry books edited by Delaware-based film critic
Shelby Cooke, a film critic based in Delaware, has contributed to two books that will entertain anyone interested in the art of filmmaking.
“Screen Britain” and “Film East: A Collection of Film Essays” feature multiple articles written by various critics, filmmakers and creatives from around the world.
Cooke served as editor and was a contributor for the collections. Both anthologies are available to purchase at Bethany Beach Books, the Rehoboth Art League, the Art League of Ocean City, Md., and online at film-east.com.
“Screen Britain” takes the reader on journeys through historical and contemporary British visual media to explore national identity through the cinematic lens. Its articles analyze classics like “Doctor Who” and “James Bond,” as well as more contemporary offerings like “The Souvenir” and “Aftersun.”
“Film East: A Collection of Film Essays” includes three criticism anthologies, “Screen Dreams,” “Eating the Screen” and “Queer Projections.”
“Whether you’ve studied films at school or just enjoy learning something new about your favorite Netflix TV show, you’ll find something to love in these books. From humorous to serious and philosophical to personal, the articles in these books embrace an array of voices, giving you a mixture of perspectives and interpretations of old and new films and TV shows,” said Cooke.
A film critic and curator specializing in British culture and national identity on screen, Cooke holds a master’s degree in film studies from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England.
