Locals to discuss recent mission trip to Congo Aug. 27
A team of people, including Susie and Miriam Keefer, and Megan and Olivia Nehrbas, embarked July 6 on a eight-day mission trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The group visited Miriam's Table, a children's nutrition center established by Susie Keefer and her husband Ed in 2014, as well as the Children's Ministry of Kinshasa, the Mpasa Elderly Nutrition Program and the Mpasa Children's Nutrition Program. The group had a busy schedule of meeting and greeting, and becoming familiar with the inner workings of the programs designed to partner with the Congolese people, helping them move toward better health and welfare, and self-sustainability.
This was Susie Keefer's 15th trip to the area, and the first trip for Megan and Olivia. Susie continued her journey for two more weeks, traveling to the upcountry to visit new wells and more partnership programs after the others returned home. Miriam, who was adopted by the Keefers in 2013, has returned to her birth country numerous times to assist with the nutrition center.
The team will share their experience with the aid of videos and slides in a program set for Sunday, Aug. 27, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th St., Lewes. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a free pizza dinner including salad and an ice cream sundae bar. The program will begin at 6 p.m.
A love offering will be taken. Checks can be made payable to Miriam's Table. Reservations are preferred; to register, call Bethel at 302-645-9426. For more information about Miriam's Table, go to miriamstable.org.
