The Lodge at Historic Lewes opens with ample amenities

Senior living units include independent living, assisted living, and memory care

Lewes’ latest senior living facility already has a packed calendar of events for November.

As director of recreation and events for The Lodge at Historic Lewes on Kings Highway, Brett Gershman is at the center of activity planning for the facility that offers 175 senior living units – 78 independent living, 65 assisted living, and 32 private and semi-private units in memory care.

“The Lodge is a lot like an apartment complex, but I think of it as a cruise ship that hasn’t left the dock,” Gershman said.

Walking through the independent living entrance, the space moves into a dining room area with a bar. A communal area where cooking demonstrations occur with other activities is off to the side, and a 34-seat movie theater, full dining room, exercise room, and game room are farther down the line. “A lot of the game room is resident led,” Gershman said, noting the room features a shuffleboard table, pool table, and plenty of tables for puzzles or games.

Holidays are a time for celebration at The Lodge, and already the facility celebrated Labor Day and Veterans Day in style.

“There are a lot of veterans here, so we want to recognize them accordingly,” Gershman said. “It’s not just one day.”

For residents who want to venture out, a free community shuttle is ready to take them to places like the outlets, local restaurants, concerts and other area attractions.

“The bus will drop you off at the door,” Gershman said. “That way you don’t have to look for a parking spot.”

Since opening in August, Gershman said The Lodge has had a steady flow of new residents. So far, he said, there are about 80 residents in 70 independent living units, he said.

Independent living units run $5,145 per month for a standard apartment and up to $7,245 for a two-bedroom deluxe. A second occupant fee of $1,500 applies to all units. Electricity, air conditioning, heating, water, light housekeeping, garbage and sewer are included. A phone, cable and internet bundle is $70 per month.

Each resident gets a $300 monthly credit for any of the on-site dining facilities.

The assisted living section has its own entrance. It also has amenities such as a dining area, game room and small theater. Access to the independent living area is allowed when accompanied by staff.

Daily personal wellness checks are included, and a licensed nurse is on site 24/7.

Units run from $7,290 per month for standard to $10,200 for a two-bedroom deluxe. The second occupant fee is $1,500. Other costs include daily rates that run $243 to $340, and extra fees for medication and levels of care.

In the memory care unit, a common area allows for interaction of residents with caregivers. Rooms have village-style entrances along the perimeter of the activity areas. Rates run $7,320 per month for semi-private room up to $10,980 for private deluxe. Daily rates run $244 to $366, with additional fees for medication and levels of care.

Senior Marketing Manager Kate Dunham describes The Lodge at Historic Lewes as a family-owned business that strives for vibrant, carefree and healthy lifestyles for its residents.

“Seniors seeking resort-style living with abundant amenities, exceptional wellness programs and the flexibility of monthly rental apartments need look no further than The Lodge at Historic Lewes,” she said.
