The Cadia Healthcare Renaissance Rehabilitation Center was evacuated Jan. 25 after a fire was reported in the mechanical room.
Firefighters from Indian River Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the Long Neck center at 9:30 p.m. and found smoke coming from the building, said John Galaska, chief deputy state fire marshal.
Nurses had evacuated the center, fire officials said, and there were no reported injuries.
Galaska said the fire was accidental and caused by a malfunction of an electrical powerstrip. The building’s automatic sprinkler system contained the fire, Galaska said. Damage is estimated at $2,500.
