Lou M. Wood, accomplished Realtor
Lou M. Wood, 82 years young, departed this life Sunday, July 29, 2018.
Lou was born July 24, 1936, in Jefferson City, Mo. She is predeceased by her parents, Louis W. and Therese E. Stoecklein Pickert; brother Sonny Pickert; sister Patricia Pavalac; and granddaughter Jessica Wood Serslev. During her life, she was a devout Catholic and an active member of her parish. A private Mass was held for family at the Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kan., Aug. 11.

Lou was a well-known and successful Realtor, both locally and nationally. She was an emeritus member of the National Association of Realtors, on the legislative committee of Kansas, and a state director. Lou was also an active executive committee member for the state of Missouri. As a female pioneer in the real estate industry, she opened Lou M. Wood, Realtors, which launched her into the Multi Million Dollar Club in residential sales. During her vibrant career she was honored to be selected as the Missouri Realtor of the Year (1989) by the Missouri Association of Realtors; Realtor of the Year (1976, 1982) and Broker of the Year (1986) by the Metropolitan Kansas City Board of Realtors; Raytown Business Person of the Year (1986); president of Raytown Chamber of Commerce, among several additional accolades. She maintained her real estate license in addition to her GRI and CRS designation till the end.
She was a loving mother, maw maw and wife. Lou loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren at her home in Leawood, Kan., and beach home in Rehoboth Beach. She is survived by her husband Charles H. Wood Jr.; and her two daughters, Deborah Serslev (Chris) of San Diego, Calif.; and Sharon Wood (Ken) of Overland Park, Kan. Her favorite designation was that of maw maw to her two grandsons, Nathaniel C. Serslev (Sheena) of Irvine, Calif., and Zachary C. Serslev of San Diego, Calif., and three granddaughters Rachel Kormanik Sergiyenko (Alexey), Sarah Heringer (Eduardo), and Megan Kormanik of Olathe, Kan., and her great-granddaughter Emma Lou. As the eldest of nine siblings, she leaves five sisters, Betty Snavely (Bill), Joan McDaniel (Frank), Mary Scott (Jim), Jane Zeller (Ron), and Judy Bornholdt (Jan), and two brothers John Pickert (Barbara) and Jerry Pickert (Carol), as well as 40-plus nieces and nephews.
Lou M. Wood was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues alike.
