Louise Marie Bailey, Beebe retiree

Louise Marie Bailey, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Monday, April 8, 2024. She was born Jan. 28, 1938, in Harrington, to the late John and Lilly Voss.

Louise married Clarence “Gigger” Bailey Oct. 16, 1954. They were married for 60 years before Gigger died in 2014. Together they raised their four children in the Milton area. Louise worked at Beebe Hospital as a certified nursing assistant for 41 years.

Louise enjoyed cooking and baking for family gatherings, shopping, and visits from family and friends. She frequently attended her grandchildren’s athletic events and was their No. 1 fan. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Louise is predeceased by her husband, Clarence “Gigger” Bailey; and her granddaughter, Melissa Downey.

Louise is survived by her children, Randy (Paula) Bailey of Montgomery Village, Md., Sandy (Keith) Whaley of Laurel, Gary (Carlyn) Bailey of Rehoboth, and Cheryl (Chris) Betts of Milton; her nine grandchildren, Chris Skye, Shannon Bailey, Jason Bailey, Sabrina Hearn, Matt Whaley, Brittany Matthews, Erin Hurlock, Christopher Betts and Cory Betts; 21 great-grandchildren; and special sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

A special thanks to Dr. Palekar and Dr. Rosa for the excellent and loving care she received, and to her very special caregivers, Debbie, Cindy, Nancy, Barb, Felicia and Karen, who were part of Team Weezie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 19, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton. 

Flowers are accepted. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
