Macha makes pitch to Rehoboth voters

August 2, 2024

My name is Rachel Macha, and I am running for Rehoboth Beach commissioner. My husband Rich and I have cherished our 25 years as property owners here, raising our five children – triplets and twins – in this vibrant community. At age 14, our kids worked in Rehoboth, through high school and college, instilling in our family a deep love for this city and countless priceless memories.

Over the past five years, I have dedicated myself to serving Rehoboth property owners, building a robust and capable presence within the city. My experience spans the planning commission, the parks and shade tree commission and, currently, the Rehoboth Beach Main Street board of directors. While on the Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission, I was actively involved in the two-year effort to update the comprehensive development plan, the strategic guide that, to date, the mayor and commissioners have failed to implement.

If elected, I will leverage my business background and extensive city experience to ensure Rehoboth Beach is run efficiently and effectively.

Here’s what I promise to bring to the coard of commissioners:

Prudent use of taxpayer money: I will put an end to the wasteful spending on unnecessary legal fees and litigation. The city currently spends an extraordinary amount on these expenses to push political agendas, diverting funds from essential services, which contributed to a 29% increase in property taxes

Common-sense decision-making: I will introduce improved processes and policies, ensuring fresh ideas are always considered

Responsible spending: I will put an end to unreasonable compensation and relocation packages, ensuring all future decisions have proper controls and approvals.

Fiscal accountability: I will halt unnecessary spending on consultants and studies until we fully understand our 2024 budget and fiscal position, with a thorough review of the 2025 forecast

Budget management: I commit to monthly budget reviews, managing to a balanced budget, and proper forecasting at least two years ahead

New revenue opportunities: I will identify revenue sources that do not rely on increasing residential property taxes and fees

Strategic planning: I will ensure our city’s strategic plan aligns with CDP priorities

Tax relief: I will propose retracting or reducing the recent 29% property tax increase

Local advocacy: I will champion the reclamation of Deauville Beach from the State of  Delaware

Transparency and collaboration: I will encourage an environment where all voices are heard, aiming for the best outcomes on every topic

Citizen engagement: I will propose the creation of a citizen advisory board to ensure current concerns, issues and ideas are addressed

Enhanced citizen experience: I will work to ensure everyone has a positive experience in Rehoboth Beach.

I am confident that my experience, strategic and tactical skills, high energy and collaborative approach will serve our city well.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Please vote for me Saturday, Aug. 10, or by absentee ballot.
