Madelyn Margaret Nellius, services set

June 15, 2023

Madelyn Margaret Nellius, 73, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born June 16, 1949, in West Reading, Pa., daughter of the late Robert Clifford and Elizabeth Allen (Lingle) Zilmer.

Born and raised in West Reading, Pa., Madelyn was a class of 1967 graduate of Reading High School. In 1975, she left Pennsylvania and made the First State her home, residing in Dover, and then migrated south in 1999, settling in Rehoboth Beach. She attended Delaware Technical Community College and received her veterinary technician certificate. She was a lover of all animals, but especially cats. Madelyn retired from the Delaware Department of Transportation, and she served on the Delaware Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline, a role that she was very proud of and found very fulfilling.

Her faith was an anchor in her life, and she was a devout member of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church. She was an enthusiastic conservationist, and preserving our world’s resources and protecting our wildlife was very important to her. She was an energetic, effervescent soul who loved her family with every ounce of her being. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Madelyn is survived by her son, Vincent Rosato (Carlene) of Florida; her daughter Michelle Orlando of Shillington, Pa.; her grandchildren, Angelica, Savannah, Emerson and Braxton Rosato, and Elizabeth and Christina Orlando; her brother, Richard Zilmer (Lorie) of Kunkletown, Pa.; her nephews, Christian and Travis Zilmer; and her nieces, Elizabeth Lesiewicz and Lyndsey Zilmer.

A Celebration of Madelyn’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 24, at Delaware Veterans Post 2, 720 Pear St., Dover, where friends may visit beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
