Mahjong tournament registration due May 1
The Sea Gals Women’s Group of Angola by the Bay will hold its fourth annual mahjong tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at the Angola by the Bay Clubhouse, 33457 Woodland Circle, Lewes
Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy and calculation with a degree of chance.
Having originated in China as a card game, Mahjong has become a favorite not only in China and later Japan, but also in Europe and the United States. Tiles replaced cards in the mid-19th century and the game was introduced to the U.S in 1920. The rest is history.
Doors will open at 9 a.m. A $40 registration fee includes prizes, morning coffee and pastries, and lunch, all served by the women’s group. Beverages and snacks will be available all day. Registration is due no later than Sunday, May 1, by contacting Terry Bordlemay at abtbmahjong@gmail.com or 302-245-9834.
Tournament proceeds support the Sea Gals community service fund. The group has been in existence since 1975, and it supports local charities such as Home of the Brave, Cape Henlopen Food Basket, Weekend Warrior Program and a local scholarship program.
