Major Nathaniel Mitchell NSDAR chapter meets in patriot’s home
The Major Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter NSDAR met May 8 at Rosemont, Nathaniel Mitchell’s home in Laurel.
It was the first organization to meet in the home since the Laurel Redevelopment Corporation purchased it a few months ago. Ned Fowler from the Laurel Historical Society presented a talk on Rosemont’s history. Members agreed it was a privilege to be able to meet in the historical home of their patriot.
The chapter’s first organizational meeting actually took place at Rosemont in 1972.
New member Virginia Wheeler Craciun was welcomed into the Major Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter NSDAR by Judith Schlott, chaplain; Adrienne Donaway, membership chair; Carol Evans, regent; and all members present.
Service efforts include a raffle coordinated by Karen Parker with 100 percent of proceeds to benefit DAR schools. She was assisted by Summer Jester.
The chapter organized an early Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony May 8 at the gravesite of Nathaniel Mitchell in Laurel.
In a preservation effort, chapter members cleaned headstones at the Asbury Cemetery west of Georgetown May 15.
