Margaret Laretta Whalen, enjoyed cooking, sewing

Margaret “Peggy” Laretta Whalen, 89, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Feb, 27, 2024.   

Peggy was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Melbourne, Fla. She married the love of her life, Thomas J. Whalen Jr., and together they created a home filled with love and laughter. Peggy was a wonderful and traditional homemaker, taking immense pride in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for her family.

Her hands were always busy with the art of crochet and sewing. Peggy’s attention to detail was evident in every stitch, showcasing not only her talent but also her dedication to creating beautiful, handmade treasures for her loved ones. She found immense joy in preparing delicious meals for her family and friends, always experimenting with new recipes and ensuring every dish was made with love. Peggy had a keen eye for aesthetics and expressed her creativity through painting. Her artwork reflected the beauty she saw in the world around her. She also enjoyed watching movies and TV, and could name every actor and actress.

Peggy is survived by her loving daughters, Bonnie Whalen and Karen Whalen; grandchildren, Laurie Conrad, Paula Conrad, Sandra Samsel, Elva Samsel and Darcy Woodall; and a brother, Wayne Battaglino.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be held at the nearby Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of choice in Margaret 's memory.
