Mariner basketball goes one and one with Milford Middle

January 20, 2012

Mariner Middle School boys' basketball used the three-point shot to pull ahead and win an intense 39-26 victory over the visiting Bucs on Jan. 19.

Jerry Harden and Noah Piper each hit the important go-ahead three-point shots to pump up the Vikes. Corey Corbin and Wardell Allen were high scorers for the Vikings with nine points each.

In girls' action, the Vikings dropped a frustrating 38-17 contest with the Bucs. The Lady Vikings had trouble breaking the Milford full court press in the first half as they went into the locker room down 20-3. The Vikings turned it around in the third quarter, matching the visitors basket for basket, but couldn't hold off the high powered Buc offense in the fourth.  Paige Mohr was the leading scorer for the Vikings with 5 points.

Mariner travels to Smyrna Thursday, Jan. 26 to battle the Eagles.
