The Mariner Middle School boys’ basketball squad moved to 8-1 with a 43-30 victory over the Seahawks Jan. 23 at Sussex Academy.
Th Vikings were led by Trey Leggins with seven points; Maurki James and David Maker each had six. Bruce Mosley and Kai Bickham both had four points, while Isaiah Ayers and Collin Sivels put in three apiece. Dylan Henry, Cody Trivits, Nick Cox, Andrew Criswell and Carlton Bruinton-Gibbs each had a bucket.
Jacob Schell led the Seahawks with 10 points. Timmy Hitchcock scored five points, and Holden Steward and Weston Martin each had three. Brady Thompson and Zane Adams each hit for two.
The 3-7 Seahawks were set to play DAFB Thursday, Jan. 24, while the Mariner squad will travel to Providence Creek Academy Monday, Jan. 28.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
