Mary Elizabeth Vogel Fakler, loved by all
Mary Elizabeth "Betsi" Vogel Fakler of Rehoboth Beach passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, in Boynton Beach, Fla., where she intended to spend the winter.
Generous, vibrant, loving, and fun, she was a friend to many and will be missed by all.
Betsi was the beloved wife of the late Jimmy Fakler (2020). She is survived by siblings, Thomas (Diane) Vogel, Nancy (Brian) McAndrew and Sally Vogel (Emeric DeBor); in-laws, John Fakler and Julie (Tracy) Callahan; and nieces and nephews, Doug (Megen) Vogel, Christine Zilleckis, Kelly (Adnaan) Bhyat, TJ Callahan, Cole (Katie) DeBor, Stevie Callahan, Paige (Kevin) Taney and Matty Callahan. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank Vogel and Ann Vogel Cuenin.
Betsi was born in Fort Benning, Ga., and created lifelong friendships across the many places she lived. She attended Farmland Elementary and Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Md., and graduated from Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., becoming a devoted lifelong Tigers football fan. (WAR EAGLE!)
Her early career took her to Atlanta, Ga., Nashville, Tenn., and New York City before settling with Jimmy in Chevy Chase, Md., and Rehoboth Beach, along with their beloved vizsla, Augie. Everywhere, Betsi lived life to the fullest.
With Jimmy's assistance (or, maybe, despite it) Betsi became a proficient golfer, succeeding in numerous club tournaments from Rehoboth Beach to Bermuda.
Betsi joined Jimmy and John at the company they created, US Express Freight Systems, where every employee became a part of her family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb.1, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, with a reception for family and friends immediately following at Kings Creek Country Club, Rehoboth.
Donations in Betsi's memory can be made to Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad, bccrs.org, with which she had a long-standing relationship; or a charity of choice.
