Cape Gazette reporter Maddy Lauria made this photograph on the evening of the Summer Solstice. “It’s peak mating season for horseshoe crabs, which congregate along the shores of the Delaware Bay and Inland Bays in late spring and early summer,” she wrote. “During a sunset high tide June 21, crabs mate and lay eggs along the edge of Indian River Bay at the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays’ James Farm Preserve near Ocean View.”
