The owners of two properties along Savannah Road in Lewes have filed applications to change the parcels to C-2 commercial zoning for medical offices.
J&T Properties LLC and Jane Brady own about an acre across from Wescoats Road. The properties – 1543 and 1545 Savannah Road – are adjacent to land designated for the upcoming Old Orchard Road-Savannah Road roadway and intersection improvement project.
The Delaware Department of Transportation project includes realignment of Old Orchard Road to intersect with Savannah Road at the Wescoats Road intersection. The project also includes a roundabout at the Wescoats-Clay roads intersection. Utility upgrades and relocations started in 2023 and are scheduled to be completed this spring to make way for roadwork to begin.
Attorney Tim Willard said the parcels are surrounded by commercial properties, which is consistent with the county’s comprehensive plan in the coastal zone district.
Willard said DelDOT officials have permitted a right-in, right-out entrance for both lots, with a cross-access easement linking the properties.
J&T Properties already owns a physical therapy office.
Sussex County Council has scheduled a public hearing on the applications at its Tuesday, March 25 meeting.
