Melvyn Winters, avid photographer
Melvyn Winters passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, at the age of 85. He was born March 19, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from Dover High School, Dover, N.J. and was a member of the track team. He had several jobs before working at General Foods, and Church and Dwight as a lab tech. He retired from both companies. While working for General Foods, he was part of a team that developed the apricot flavoring for Jell-O and Entenmann’s packaging, which led to a patent. He received several acknowledgments for his work.
Mel was an avid photographer, a “Ford” man, and tinkered with anything electronic. He loved family gatherings, where he was always the photographer. He had a green thumb and enjoyed his lawn. He will be remembered for his love of his motorcycles, Disney, and the World’s Fair. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and helping the Cub Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carole; his children, Wendy Coyle (Bob), Steven, David, and Jill Dewey (Jeff), his 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was fond of his pets, especially his latest cat, Bella. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, with visitation starting at 12:30 p.m., at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 South State St., Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in his memory to Brandywine SPCA or the Wounded Warrior Project.
