March 12, 2024

Michael G. Mixon, 68, of Milton, passed away Thursday, Feb, 29, 2024, at Bayhealth, Milford. He was born Jan. 25, 1956, son of the late Edgar Lee Arthur and Phyllis (Wright) Mixon.

Mike's passion for music began at a young age, starting to play the keyboard at 5 in 1961. His professional journey commenced around 14 when he played the organ at skating rinks, eventually transitioning into a career at the Wurlitzer/Steinway factory stores, selling organs and pianos. Mike's dedication to his craft and commitment to customer satisfaction led him to establish his own store in Lewiston, Maine, and then move the entire operation to Bear.

Through hard work and perseverance, Mike expanded his business to include Michael G's Music & Electronics in 1984, which became a very successful venture. In 1998, he opened a second location and ventured into the online realm with keyboardamerica.com, showcasing his forward-thinking vision for the future of the industry. Mike's goal was to sell only a trouble-free product with the expectation to last a lifetime and to give his clients years of musical enjoyment! Mike's extensive experience in the piano and organ industry spanned over five decades, during which he excelled as a performing artist. His contributions to the music community were recognized through various performances, including appearances with notable figures like Jack Jones and Phyllis Diller.

One of Mike's most memorable performances was for Princess Catherine Caradja of Romania during a P.O.W. reunion in the U.S. His musical talents also graced Major League Baseball events worldwide, including engagements in London, Germany, Holland, and with the Wilmington Blue Rocks in Delaware. However, at heart, he was an avid Red Sox fan.

Mike is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Kathleen R. Mixon; two brothers, Thomas L. Mixon and Raymond D. Mixon (Carole); and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are private.
