The visiting Milford soccer team scored three straight goals in the second half to down Cape 4-3 March 30 at Legends Stadium.

Cape scored the first goal goal of the game on a blast from attacking Morgan Schubert off a pass from Kiersten Smith. The Bucs answered just 60 seconds later with an unassisted goal from senior Emily Thode.

The Vikings went back on top 2-1 on a breakaway goal by Schubert from Ava Brown to end the first half.

The Vikings started the second stanza with a blast by Cadence McMahon from Colleen Flynn to move to 3-1.

Then the Bucs came sailing back, getting second-half tallies from Lila Mergner and two from Adriana Alvarado to move the Bucs to 3-0 and drop the Vikings to 1-3 on the season.

Cape outshot the Bucs 18-9. Cape goalie Brianna Burrell made five saves, while Milford keeper Isabella Hannah stopped 15 scoring attempts.

“It was another close one as usual between the two teams,” said Milford head coach Prince Kemmerlin. “Seems like the road team has gotten the upper hand every time. I was proud of my players to not give up after going down 3-1. We do a ton of running in practice. Even in the drills there is a buildup, so there is always endurance being tested. We're always up for a good fight in the second half of matches or OT. We showed energy and togetherness to make a strong comeback.”

“It was a tough match against a good opponent,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “I felt for the most part we controlled the flow of play. We went up 3-1, then momentum shifted. It was a tough lesson to learn. I think the girls understand that they have to keep the same game-winning mentality throughout the entire match. We will learn from this and look to improve in our next match Tuesday against Sussex Tech.”

The Vikings will host Sussex Tech Tuesday, April 4, at Champions Stadium.
