Milton council members take their seats

April 11, 2025

Milton Mayor John Collier, and council members Robert Gray and Tom Arkinson were sworn in as members of Milton Town Council April 7.

Collier begins his second term as mayor, while Arkinson will serve his first full term on council after being appointed in 2023. Gray was elected for his first term in the March 1 Milton elections.

Gray takes the seat previously held by Councilman Larry Savage, who declined to run for another term. Collier presented Savage with a personalized plaque as a gift for his service to the community. Collier, Arkinson and Gray will serve three-year terms on council.

Each council member brings their own personal touch to taking the oath of office, administered by Judge Jack Hudson. Gray took the oath by himself, while Collier was accompanied by his grandson. Arkinson was accompanied by Barbara Fleetwood, widow of former Councilman Charlie Fleetwood. Arkinson placed a copy of Fleetwood’s children’s book underneath the Bible as he took the oath.
