District 3 Major League champions from Milton fell to Newark American 12-2 in the first round of the Little League Majors Delaware State Tournament July 29 at the Smyrna-Clayton Little League complex.
Newark American scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and didn't look back, only allowing two Milton hits while slamming 10 of their own.
Milton came within two on a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning by Brian Sponaugle to give them hope of a rally, but Newark kicked into overdrive, scoring five in the fourth inning to put the game on ice.
"It seemed like we were a little tight, a little nervous," said Milton Manager Rusty Rauch. "It's a bigger stage. I thought we would've handled it a little better. We got right back in the game at 4-2, but then went out and made a couple of errors, and that was it."
Milton will play the loser of Newark American and MOT All-Stars Friday, July 31, in Smyrna.
