Milton named Delaware’s safest town

Milton has been declared Delaware’s safest town according to safety research firm SafeWise. 

SafeWise, which uses crime data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in formulating its rankings, found Milton had zero violent crime incidents in the calendar year 2019. SafeWise reported that Milton’s property crime rate is 15.8 percent per 1,000 residents, lower than the state average of 23 percent. 

Rounding out the top five in SafeWise’s safest cities study were Clayton, Lewes, Elsemere and Middletown. In 2019, Lewes ranked No.1 while Milton was No. 3.

Town Manager Kristy Rogers said she was proud the town received such a designation.

“I think it shows the dedication the police department shows toward our community, trying to make it a great place to live,” she said.
