Delaware Ovarian Cancer Foundation kicked off its annual Turn The Town Teal event Aug. 9 in Milton, placing teal ribbons throughout town to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.
A small group met at town hall on Federal Street, then volunteers spread out from there. Taking part in back are Peg Lederman, Sally Oberle, Mayor John Collier and Debby Pecoraro. In front are Diane Bitterle, Mary Molettiere, Elsa Black and Ellen DeRosa.
The ribbons will be up through September, which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer, one of the deadliest gynecologic cancers, can affect 1 in 70 women of any age, and the symptoms can be difficult to detect.
