Mosaic classes at Rehoboth Art League to start Jan. 25
Mosaics have been used to decorate floors, walls, ceilings and precious objects since before written records began. Mosaics were first constructed out of colored pebbles, but today, mosaic artists work with cut ceramic and glass tiles.
For those interested in learning this art form, Rehoboth Art League will offer Mosaic Mirrors from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26. Participants will learn to use color and design techniques to make a mirror using glass and ceramic tiles. Cutting, gluing and grouting skills will be taught, and each student will take home a beautiful and useful work of art. The cost is $150 per person, which includes all supplies.
Offering a more in-depth mosaic experience will be The Basics of Mosaic Art, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Feb. 12 to March 11. Students will be introduced to the basics of the art of mosaics. They will learn the history, tools, techniques and color theory used to create mosaic designs. Students will also learn to cut, glue, and grout glass and ceramic tiles to create a 12-by-12-inch stepping-stone. The cost is $185 per person, which includes all supplies.
Registration is required for all classes; go to www.rehobothartleague.org or call 302-227-8408, Ext. 112. All classes are held at the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.
