Movie nights and bonfires kick off June 17 in Dewey Beach

June 14, 2024

Movies and bonfires in Dewey Beach, presented by the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, are back for the 2024 summer season.

Crowds of 200-300 people enjoyed the evening events on the beach in 2023. Thanks go to Weis Markets, official sponsor, for continued support of these weekly events, allowing the movies to keep rolling and the bonfires to keep burning. Big thanks also go to the Town of Dewey Beach, which will once again offer free parking from 5 to 11 p.m., Mondays only (excluding federal holidays), on town streets.

Movies start at approximately 8:30 p.m., Mondays on the beach at Dagsworthy Avenue in Dewey Beach. Attendance is donation-based, with no admission fee.

Scheduled dates and movie titles are: June 17, “Minions: The Rise of Gru”; June 24, “Under The Boardwalk”; July 1, “National Treasure”; July 8, “Wish”; July 15, “Back to the Future”; July 22, “The Super Mario Bros Movie”; July 29, “The Little Mermaid”; Aug. 5, “Turning Red”; Aug. 12, “Elemental”; Aug. 19, “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.”

For s’more fun, bonfire on the beach events are held from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays at Dagsworthy Avenue in Dewey Beach. A donation of $1 or more gets roasters a jumbo marshmallow and stick to borrow for roasting, while supplies last. Roasting sticks should be returned after use.

Bonfire dates in Dewey Beach are June 19, June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, Aug. 7, Aug. 14 and Aug. 21.

These events are weather-dependent. In the event of inclement weather, cancellations will be determined no later than 7 p.m. on movie days and 6 p.m. on bonfire days.

Notice of cancellation will be posted to the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce Instagram and Facebook pages. Staff will notify Dewey Beach accommodations of cancellations made prior to the start of an event. If weather is clear, events will take place as scheduled but may end early due to potentially hazardous weather conditions.
