Music School of Delaware to feature string quartets Feb. 10
In 2025, The Music School of Delaware celebrates 100 years of music education and excellence in Delaware.
Incorporated in 1925, the school has now operated continuously for a century and serves as the only accredited, statewide community music school in the nation. Operating out of its primary locations in Wilmington and Milford, the school’s mission is to provide excellence in music education, training, and experiences for people of all ages and abilities.
To mark its centennial, the Music School of Delaware will host a special events series throughout the year, featuring MSOD faculty, students, partner organizations, and special guests joining together to present exciting musical experiences in a variety of community settings.
The series includes a collaboration between the school’s Nagoya String Quartet and the Copeland String Quartet, which consists of members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. A performance of Mendelssohn’s Octet will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10, at the Music School of Delaware, 23 N Walnut St., Milford.
Additional events include a collaboration with faculty members from Delaware State University; a collaboration with the Helena Raskob Arts Institute at Archmere Academy featuring members of the MSOD piano faculty; a multi-instrument program that explores Latin-American music; an audience participation concert joining the classical and jazz/rock/pop traditions; both flute and bassoon showcases; a performance of “Jane the Quene: A Dramatic Song Cycle (performance) Rediscovering the First Queen of England”; and a final closing concert featuring a new work by native Delawarean Ryan Meredith showcasing the Music School’s Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra, Wilmington Community Orchestra and faculty soloists.
