“Serving as treasurer is an opportunity for me to expand my leadership skills” said Schlott, “DAR offers comprehensive and free leadership trainings to all members, and opportunities to service my chapter and my community.”
For her outstanding accomplishments, the club presented Sussex Central JROTC Cadet Melanie Ceylan with a JROTC medal, certificate and $50.
The chapter collected and delivered personal items for students at the Howard T. Ennis School.
On a recent Saturday, members met at St. Paul's Episcopal Church cemetery in Georgetown to clean tombstones. This is an ongoing preservation project of the chapter. Other community volunteers participated as well.
Chapter representatives Carol Evans and Glenda Scott participated in the Memorial Day wreath laying at the Sussex County Courthouse in Georgetown.
Chapter members invite all interested parties to attend its September meeting, greet the new officers and consider a membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The organization works to promote patriotism, preserve American history and secure America’s future through better education for children. Any women over 18, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. DAR volunteers provide guidance and assistance with the first step into the world of genealogy.
