New Mariner Middle PTO looks to support students, staff

Organization seeks to donate classroom supplies, help fund trips and build school spirit
October 11, 2021

Milton parents and local businesses are teaming together to jump-start a new iteration of the Mariner Middle Parent-Teacher Organization.

School board member and parent Jessica Tyndall said earlier efforts to revitalize the PTO stalled when the pandemic began, but the group is now on track to help support teachers and students.

Tyndall, who is serving as PTO president this year, said the organization is seeking businesses or individual family PTO partners who can sponsor a classroom and looking for 50/50 partners, in which half the donation goes to the PTO for ongoing support of students and staff, and the other half goes directly to teachers who have submitted reimbursement requests for classroom needs.

Mariner has several internal organizations, Tyndall said, including Business Professionals of America and the eighth-grade science trip to Florida, which the PTO also hopes to support through donations. Additional fundraisers are planned, as well as kid-centric activities to involve students, and help build school pride and spirit, she said.

The PTO has an IRS Tax ID Number/EIN and is awaiting confirmation of its 501c3 status, Tyndall said.

Board members include President Jess Tyndall, Vice President Mary Stuart, Treasurer Jennifer Price, Secretary Amy Draper, Fundraising Chairs Lara Booth and Anna Hill, and Membership Director Nicole Scott.
