There is no charge to attend the classes, and there is free childcare provided for children 6 months to 11 years old during all sessions. There is a materials fee of $25. Registration for new students will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, and Thursday, Jan 16.
Classes focus on social interaction vocabulary and conversation, grammar, writing and reading comprehension skills. Students represent over 20 countries, with large numbers of native Spanish language speakers. They are assisted by 40 volunteer teachers who come from all professional backgrounds.
In operation since 2004, the program is the largest of its nature in Sussex County, with 150 students in the 2018-19 session. It is open to all, regardless of religious affiliation. Funding for the program is provided by donations from businesses, individuals and the church, as well as grants from the Arsht-Cannon Fund, Harry K Foundation and the Longwood Foundation.
