The City of Lewes, in coordination with the Lewes Board of Public Works, Lewes Fire Department, and the Department of Agriculture Forestry Unit, will be conducting phragmites control in the marsh areas on the east side of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal to include American Legion Road, East Market Street, and an area off Anglers Road.

Phragmites control in these areas has not been completed in over 10 years. Control of the phragmites in these areas includes mowing and burning. The burning is tentatively scheduled to begin the middle of March and will continue throughout the month. This schedule is extremely weather dependent. There may be roads and trails that need to be closed from time to time so the work can be completed safely, including the bike path from American Legion Road to Freeman Highway.
