Intersection work in Georgetown Aug. 17

The Delaware Department of Transportation will be making intersection improvements on several roads in the Georgetown area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17. Intermittent lane closures will occur.
• Zoar Road and Peterkin Road, all-way stop. DelDOT will be restricting left-turn movement along westbound Zoar Road onto Patriots Way and restricting northbound movement along Patriots Way at Zoar Road.
• Zoar Road and Cedar Lane/Patriots Way intersection, conversion to a one-way stop on eastbound Patriots Way.
• Patriots Way and Peterkins Road, one-way stop.
Flaggers will be onsite to direct motorists through the intersections.

Lewes planners set to meet Aug. 19

Lewes Planning Commission will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19. The meeting will open with a presentation and discussion regarding the city’s flood plain fill ordinance. Commissioners will then consider a waiver request for the type of material to be used for storm drains in the Lewes Waterfront Preserve major subdivision. They will also consider a waiver request for the storm pipe slope in Lewes Waterfront Preserve. Resiliency community recommendations will also be discussed. Lewes Public Art Committee to meet

The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17.
The group will discuss entries for the planned mural on Schley Avenue. The committee will meet again at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, to choose finalists for the mural and commit to a contract.

Sussex council not meeting Aug. 18

Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, Aug. 18. The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. The agenda for the meeting will be posted at www.sussexcountyde.gov on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Senior programs get transportation funds

With a $796,862 grant from DART for senior transportation programs, Sussex County Council approved the following allotments based on requests and size of programs, which mirror the same amounts dispersed over the past decade:
CHEER Inc. – $580,534; Laurel Senior Center – $99,083; Nanticoke Senior Center, Seaford – $44,959; Cape Henlopen Senior Center, Rehoboth Beach – $43,066; Lewes Senior Center – $27,120; and Indian River Senior Center, Millsboro – $2,100.

Special Rehoboth meeting set Aug. 18

Rehoboth Beach has scheduled a special commissioner meeting for 3 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18. The meeting will take place virtually. The agenda calls for further discussion on a comprehensive action plan for reopening the city from restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of the public wishing to speak will be required to preregister with City Secretary Ann Womack at least two days prior to the meeting. She can be contacted at awomack@cityofrehoboth.com.
