Milton council to meet Dec. 15

Milton Town Council will meet at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Milton Town Hall to discuss and possibly vote on ordinances related to two annexation petitions.

The first petition is for Milton Attainable Housing LLC, which is seeking to annex 26 acres at the corner of Route 16 and Country Road, that would then be developed into 239 housing units and four pad sites for commercial businesses. 

The second petition is for BBD LLC, on behalf of Stephen and Lynn Dexter, who wish to annex a nearly 8-acre parcel at the intersection of Route 16 and Union Street Extended, and then develop it as a commercial office and storage facility.

Milton planners to meet Dec. 15

Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Cannery Village Clubhouse, to hold a public hearing and possible vote on a conditional-use permit.

Loblolly LLC is requesting a conditional-use permit to build a television transmission tower on vacant property the company owns on Sam Lucas Road. Loblolly is the property management arm of Draper Media, which owns WBOC and WRDE TV. 

Lewes Beach Parking Committee to meet

The Lewes Beach Parking Committee will meet virtually at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15. The group will continue discussion regarding parking on Cape Henlopen Drive and paper streets between Savannah Road and Freeman Highway.

They will also consider whether city rights of way on the canal side of Cedar Street should be surveyed. Also on the agenda is a discussion regarding the criteria for when an obstruction should be removed from the city’s right of way and whether a parking permit system is needed for Lewes Beach. Lewes Mitigation Planning Team to meet

The Lewes Mitigation Planning Team will meet virtually at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. The group will discuss phragmites control management, and ongoing work by planning commission subcommittees addressing wetland buffers and the recent water workshop. Lewes Board of Health meets Dec. 15

The Lewes Board of Health will meet virtually at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15. The group will continue to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the Lewes community and Cape Region. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net

Lewes Planning Commission to meet

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet virtually at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. The group will discuss an ordinance related to floodplain regulations.

They will also continue to discuss the revised site plan for Dutchman’s Harvest, a workforce housing project planned for Savannah Road.

Commissioners voted to recommend approval for the site plan at its November meeting, but because the record remained open until the end of the month, the commission will readdress the issue to determine if any changes to their recommendation are required. Lewes African American Heritage Commission meets Dec. 17

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17. The group will discuss the commission’s budget, the continued work on a historic marker, and a request from Peninsula Gallery related to public art. Rehoboth commissioner meeting Dec. 18

Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled their monthly meeting for 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18; it will be conducted online.

The agenda calls for possible votes on a beach concession contract and an ordinance that amends city code related to possession of alcohol for minors and public urination or defecation.

Sussex council awards grants to nonprofits

Sussex County Council presented the following councilmanic grants during its Dec. 8 meeting: $5,000 to Milton Fire Department for its renovation/addition project and $3,000 to Georgetown Little League for a backstop replacement project.
